The game was initially released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in June 2025, before returning to beta on July 22, 2025. A redesigned version titled Splitgate: Arena Reloaded is scheduled to relaunch on December 17, 2025.

Gameplay

Splitgate: Arena Reloaded is a fast-paced arena first-person shooter focused on gunplay, movement, and map control. Players can carry two weapons at a time and one piece of rechargeable equipment, such as grenades or deployable devices.

A defining mechanic of the game is its portal system. Players are equipped with bracers that can place two linked portals on specific surfaces, allowing instant traversal between locations. This enables advanced movement, flanking routes, and creative combat strategies while rewarding deliberate placement and spatial awareness.

Portals with a Purpose

Portals are a central design pillar of Splitgate: Arena Reloaded. The portal system was reworked to emphasize intentional use, clarity, and counterplay. Rather than encouraging constant or chaotic portal placement, portals are designed to feel valuable and rewarding when used strategically.

The redesign aims to preserve the creativity and skill expression that define Splitgate, while ensuring that playing against portals remains understandable and fair. Development experiments such as portal cooldowns were tested during playtests but ultimately removed in favor of improving visual clarity and counterplay options instead of directly limiting portal usage.

Loadouts and Equipment

Faction-based restrictions and character abilities have been removed in Arena Reloaded. Players freely select their weapons, equipment, and perks, allowing for fully customizable loadouts without character-locked gameplay modifiers. Some equipment and perk systems from earlier versions remain, but function independently of characters.

New Mechanics

Movement

Movement emphasizes speed and momentum. Players can slide to gain speed, particularly when moving downhill, and mantle ledges to quickly access elevated areas. These mechanics support fluid traversal and fast-paced combat across vertical and open map layouts.

Aces

Main article: Aces

Aces are playable characters that represent the visual identity of players. Each Ace features unique cosmetic designs and lore elements. In Arena Reloaded, Aces do not determine abilities, equipment, or gameplay modifiers.
